X puts a warning screen in front of some posts — graphic content, nudity, and anything an author flagged themselves. The post stays public, but the video behind the warning is only served to an account that is signed in and has agreed to see that kind of content.
What happens when we ask
We ask X for the post the way any visitor would, without an account. X answers with the warning instead of the video, so there is no file to hand you. The post is not deleted and the author is not private: the door is simply shut to anyone who has not signed in.
Why we do not sign in
We could run an account, agree to everything, and read these posts. We do not, and here is the honest list of reasons:
- It means driving an account on your behalf, which is exactly what X's rules forbid.
- That account would be banned sooner rather than later, and the site would break on a Tuesday morning.
- It would make us the people who decide what passes the warning. We would rather not be, and you would rather we were not.
What you can do
In the X app, open the post, let X show it to you after the warning, and use Share from there. If the author also posted the same video somewhere without the flag, that copy saves normally. Beyond that, this one is a wall, and we would rather say so than pretend.
