Just the sound

An MP3 of a post's audio, at 128 kbps. The only file this site builds — every video we hand you is X's own, untouched.

Paste a post link below and, under the list of video sizes, you will find Sound only. It hands you an MP3 of that video's audio, named after the post it came from. No account, and nothing kept on our side once the file has reached you.

The only file we build

Everything else this site gives you is the file X published, passed along without being touched. Audio is the exception. X does not keep the sound of a video as a file of its own, so there is nothing to pass along: it has to be lifted out of the video and written as an MP3. That takes a few seconds — eight of them for a post three and a half minutes long, timed on ours.

It is the whole difference between the two buttons. A video starts arriving the moment you press it, because it already exists. Sound waits while we make it.

128 kbps, and why we stop there

Every MP3 we write is 128 kbps. A site offering you 320 kbps for the same post is not giving you more sound: the MP3 is made from the audio already sitting inside the video, and re-encoding it higher cannot put back what was never recorded. You would carry a file twice the weight holding exactly the same thing.

Why the size says "about"

The figure shown next to Sound only is an estimate, and the button says so, because at that moment the file does not exist yet. The estimate is the plainest arithmetic there is: how long the video runs, multiplied by 128 kbps.

On a post of three minutes twenty-five we announce 3,277,936 bytes. The finished file came back at 3,278,636 — 700 bytes apart, two hundredths of one percent. The same post as a video, in the largest size X published for it, weighs 17.9 MB, so the sound on its own is roughly five times lighter. That is what the button is for, on a conversation, a speech or a track where the picture was never the point.

Three times it cannot be done

Public posts on X, and nothing else

This works on public posts from x.com and twitter.com. Not YouTube, not a file sitting on your own computer, and not a protected account — a private post is as invisible to us as it is to anyone its author has not accepted.

Which quality you get covers what X publishes for the video itself, with sizes measured on real posts. And lives and Spaces says when a recorded Space turns into an ordinary post, which then saves as sound like any other video.

Faster: type savemy before x.com in any post link.
